Chioggia Beets

These candy cane striped beets have a slightly sweet and fresh taste to it, and can be used in the same way as traditional beets. Slice it open to reveal a striking pattern of pink and white rings that will brighten up any dish. However, make sure to peel the skin beforehand, which is easier when cooked.

They are often used raw in salads or as a garnish on top of soups, to preserve the bright striped in the flesh. To prevent discoloration, coat the slices in vinegar or lemon juice. When cooked, the flesh will change in color – from bright into a pale pink or white hue. Chioggia beets can be steamed for a tender, soft consistency or roased to develop a sweet, earthy and caramelized flavor. Unique ways of utilization include slicing them thinly and baking them into chips, blending into dips or sauces, and slicing and wrapping into spring rolls. They can also be pickled for extended use. For sweet applications, they can be used in baked goods to add texture and color to cakes and brownies. Chioggia beets work well in combination with cheeses such as feta and goat, herbs such as cilantro, basil, and parsley, nuts and seeds like pepitas, walnuts and almonds, fennel, scallions, ginger, carrots and apples.

Delivery in the suburbs of Tbilisi (Tabakhmela, Shindisi, Tsavkisi, Kojori, Kiketi, Tskneti, Betania, Akhaldaba and other connected areas) costs 25 GEL.
